Abstract

Controlling strong-field fragments of the linear symmetric with a terahertz pulse after the resonant excitation of an ultrashort ultraviolet laser pulse is investigated. The electron of the excited states can be steered onto any of the three potential wells of the dissociating ion by optimising the time delay between the two pulses. For the left and right protons, the asymmetric spatial distribution is induced by the coherent coupling between the two lowest excited states under the dressing of the terahertz field. Nevertheless, for the middle proton, the enhanced localisation ratio is a result of the returned electron of the excited states back to the ground state.
