Abstract

Absolute differential cross sections for electron-impact excitation of the 3s3p 1P 1 state in magnesium at incident electron energies of E 0 = 10, 13, 15, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 eV have been experimentally derived and corresponding calculations have been carried out. The measurements are performed at small scattering angles from 2° to 14°. The forward scattering function method has been used for determination of the absolute values, except at E 0 ≤ 15 eV where the excitation function of the 3s3p 1P 1 state experimentally obtained by [D. Leep, A. Gallagher, Phys. Rev. A 13 (1976) 148] was utilized for normalization. The calculations have been performed in the relativistic distorted-wave approximation. The results are analyzed and compared with other available experimental data and theoretical calculations.
