Abstract
The authors present collision strengths calculated using the R-matrix method for transitions between the five lowest LS states for sodium isoelectronic sequence ions, Al III, Si IV and S VI. The importance of resonances, particularly for forbidden transitions, is investigated. Collision rates have been calculated assuming a Maxwellian electron energy distribution and their use in the interpretation of astrophysical plasmas is briefly discussed.
