Abstract

Electron impact collision strengths have been calculated using the R-matrix method for the 6 lowest LS states of Fe XIV. These calculations explicitly delineate the resonance structure in the low energy cross sections. Collision strengths for transitions between fine structure levels have been calculated by transforming to an intermediate coupling scheme and including the effects of term coupling. These fine structure results have been used to deduce excitation rates for a range of electron temperatures appropriate to astronomical and laboratory plasmas.
