Abstract

In this paper, the effect of a harmonically varying electric field on the runaway electrons in a Lorentz plasma is studied. It will be shown that runaway electrons are inhibited even for a moderate value of the frequency of the applied electric field, compared with the collision frequency, provided that the magnitude of the field is much smaller than the Dreicer field.
