Abstract
We present a model which incorporates electron-electron interactions in two overlapping d-bands and the pairing of vanadium atoms along a chain, and which accounts for the local magnetic moments formation and their dimerization. The self-consistent estimate of the free energy leads to a quantitative description of the phase transition.
