Abstract
Evolution of the optical spectra with doping has been investigated for high- T c La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 and isostructura l Ni and Co oxides. An absorption band (mid-IR band) commonly appearing in the infrared region upon doping is a general feature of strongly correlated electronic systems. The origin of the mid-IR band is discussed in connection with the itinerancy of doped holes.
