Abstract
In this article, novel double-layer films were designed and examined for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The commercial titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles as a bonding underlayer, and the silver nanowires (AgNWs) were used and prepared by means of the polyol method. They which were doped into TiO 2 composite materials. The microstructure of AgNWs and the effect of modified DSSCs on photovoltaic (PV) performance were examined. The experimental research indicated that the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) could enhance light-harvesting efficiency. The exceptional electrical conductivity of silver nanowires also improved the interface resistance of DSSCs. We found that LSPR could substantially boost the incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) of such DSSCs. The AgNWs@TiO 2 (an optimized content of 3 wt% in photoanode) improved the photovoltaic conversion efficiency (η) of the DSSCs from 4.01% to 5.88%, when compared with the DSSCs without AgNWs@TiO 2 (pure TiO 2 ).
Highlights
Energy has a great influence on economic infrastructure and social development
The sputtered Pt was present in the preparation step of the sample for field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) imaging
dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) doped with 4wt% AgNWs still had a certain photovoltaic conversion rate, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies had confirmed that too much AgNWs would reduce the quality of the photoanode film
Summary
Energy has a great influence on economic infrastructure and social development. In 1990, the third oil crisis was triggerd by the Gulf War. Under the best doping (3wt% AgNWs), the energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs was improved from 4.01% to 5.88% This improvement was attributed to three factors, namely the reduced charge transfer resistance at the TiO2/dye/electrolyte interface, the enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in the absorption spectrum, and the light scattering effects of nanowires in the AgNWs @ TiO2 photoanode [14]–[18]. An ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (Thermo Scientific, Genesys 150, United States) was used to obtain the light absorption spectrum of the sample in the wavelength range of 300-1200 nm This was to analyze the characteristic peaks of AgNWs. The DSSCs were used as the solar simulator (Taiwan MFS-PVBasic-HMT) and Keithley 2400 source meter to perform photovoltaic measurements under standard conditions (AM 1.5 G, 100 mW/cm). The EIS measurement was performed on the Open Circuit Potential Voltage and the frequency range of 1 MHz to 50 MHz with an ac amplitude of 10 mV
