Electron-capture-to-the-continuum cusp shape variations among a sequence of fluorocarbon gases for ∼ MeV/ u bare H and He projectiles

Abstract

The ECC cusp shapes for bare H and He projectiles on hydrocarbon (C m H n ) gas targets show an abrupt, small change when m ⩾ 4. Similar shape changes were sought in the ECC cusps obtained with bare H and He projectiles on the fluorocarbon gas series, CF 4, C 2F 6 and C 2F 8. Analyses of these spectra indicate little shape change among the fluorocarbon sequence. The ramifications of this result for the possibility of “wakes” in molecules will be discussed.
