Abstract

Absolute cross sections for one-electron capture by Mg+ and Mg2+ and for two-electron capture by Mg2+ in single collisions with Mg or Zn atoms have been measured at impact energies ranging from 0.50 to 1000 keV. The cross sections for the two-electron capture reactions Mg2++Mg to Mg+Mg2+ and Mg2++Zn to Mg+Zn2+ exhibit remarkable energy dependences which presumably reflect important details of the molecular dynamics of the collisions.
