Abstract

Effects of welding parameters on mechanical properties and bead characteristics of electron beam welded M-250 grade maraging steel are reported. Microstructural aspects are discussed. Above surface level focussing resulted in lesser undercut and better bead characteristics than surface level focussing. Hardness survey across the weld metal showed that EB welding decreases hardness in the weld metal as well as HAZ position. However, ageing after welding resulted in the levelling of hardness of these region to that of base metal. Tensile strength of weld metal was found to be almost close to that of base metal after aging. Charpy toughness values of weld metal was found to be 21 J, while the base metal exhibited 24 J
