Abstract

Two kinds of EIT structures are proposed, and their validities are demonstrated by using numerical simulation and experimental measurement. The type I structure consists of an “I” shaped of cut-wire pair (CWP) and a split ring resonator (SRR). In this study, we found EIT effect in metamaterial originates from magnetic interactions between resonators. Specially, by controlling the separation distance between resonators, we can obtain the destructive and constructive interferences, and thus observe the transition between EIT and EIA. The type II structure is composed of mutually perpendicular cut wire pair. This structure can efficiently control the EM wave's polarization based on high transparency and intense dispersion characteristics induced by EIT effects. Specially, its thickness is very thin and its value is about 0.017λ. Microwave experiments were also carried out to confirm our views.
