Abstract

A biconical antenna with a half cone angle of π/4 bounded by a sphere with radius of 2.4 cm to form spherical end caps was simulated in FEKO using Method of Moments. The critical aspects of this simulation is the presence of a finite but necessary feed gap to excite the antenna. We simulated the antenna with 2 nm, 10 nm and 356.65 nm feed gap length and noted that the maximum error in simulated directivity is no larger than 1.2% when compared to the theoretical model. Conversely, the errors grow large for the imaginary component of the input impedance. Discounting errors near the zero crossing of the imaginary component, the maximum errors are 546% and 34% for feed gaps of 356.65 nm and 2 nm respectively.
