Abstract

Electromagnetic shift of the Pomeranchuk trajectory is calculated at t = 0 through its virtual dissociation into a photon and a vector meson. A numerical estimate using the data of vector meson production by electrons leads to the effective electromagnetic upward shift of the intercept Δα p (0) ≅ 0.0023. It corresponds tto Δσ tot ≅ 0.6 mb for thesb proton-proton collision at the highest ISR energy available, s = 4 × 10 3 GeV 2.
