Abstract
The effect of diffuse surface scattering on the electromagnetic properties of small metallic spheres is analyzed. We find an enhancement of the optical absorption in the infrared region, and a large blue shift for the dipolar plasma resonance of normal metals. This blue shift is found to be negligible in the case of noble metals.
