Abstract

The air cored superconducting linear synchronous motor (LSM) as a key part of the propulsion system of electrodynamic suspension (EDS) system needs to be studied comprehensively to promote the development of EDS. Therefore, the output characteristics of a real-scale air cored superconducting LSM in EDS were studied and optimized in this paper. Firstly, a finite element (FE) model of a real-scale superconducting LSM was established and validated. Afterword, the characteristics of the real-scale superconducting LSM, including open-circuit flux density, armature magnetic field, back-EMF, normal force and thrust were investigated and optimized based on the FE model. The RMS of thrust and normal force were enhanced significantly by the optimization which taken the thickness of primary coils as a variable.
