Abstract

This paper presents an evaluation of noise and vibration in a distributed winding permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by voltage source pulse width modulation (PWM) inverters. The permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is used in a variety of fields. However, this kind of motor generates electromagnetic noise because it has PWM inverters. In particular, a concentrated winding PMSM is bigger than a distributed winding PMSM. This paper describes the frequency of electromagnetic noise caused by a concentrated winding PMSM. We investigated electromagnetic force generates noise by performing a theoritical analysis. It is found that electromagnetic noise results from an electromagnetic force spaced at second-order space harmonics. In addition, we performed an experiment on the electromagnetic noise of a PMSM that corroborated our analyses.
