Abstract

The electromagnetic (EM) wave cross field acceleration is studied numerically and theoretically. First a new mechanism is presented for a high‐energy electron production electrons are scattered by the EM wave and can obtain energy from the wave efficiently. Typically the magnitude of the static Bapp field is significantly small compared with the amplitude of EM wave. In order to accelerate electrons more efficiently, next we take a slow EM wave whose velocity is less than the light velocity. By a slow EM wave electrons can be trapped. The trapped particles are accelerated efficiently, if the number density of the imposed particles and the time interval for the acceleration are appropriate.
