Abstract

At system level the possibilities for electromagnetic incompatibility are almost unlimited and computer-aided design tools able to provide exact solutions to EMC problems are not yet available. However, every stage is teachable, calculable (if only on a statistical basis) and manageable. These tasks are essential in the design of safety-critical systems. This article reviews some of the implications for the responsibilities of the designer and for the framework of the design process with particular reference to safety critical applications.
