Abstract

A simple model for the electromagnetic deceleration of a moving metallic projectile is described. It incorporates the influence of magnetic field parameters, time-dependent field diffusion, and device geometry on braking action, albeit in an approximate fashion. The model predicts that a viable experimental braking device can be designed.
