Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, an electromagnetic band gap structure with fractal geometry based on Peano curves is proposed to suppression of degenerated modes. The geometry is characterized by the inclusion of air slots into the substrate, under the feed line, of a rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The parameters analyzed are the input impedance using the Smith chart, the reflection coefficient (S11), radiation diagram and the electric field distribution of the propagation modes. The simulated results were compared with the measured results, obtained from manufactured prototypes and show that the proposed structure can be used to attenuate and suppress higher‐order modes.
