Abstract

The activity coefficients, equivalent conductivities, 87Rb and 1H magnetic resonance spectra and viscosities of solutions of rubidium iodide in dimethyl sulphoxide have been measured. Anomalies in the activity coefficients above 10–2 m are attributed to ion-pairing but the equivalent conductivities between 10–3 and 10–2 M are adequately accounted for by the equations characteristic of a fully dissociated electrolyte. At higher concentrations the conductivity and viscosity data have been fitted to empirical equations. Both the 87Rb and 1H resonances shifted linearly with concentration.
