Abstract
Surface-coating technology has come to achieve wide acceptance in the engineering industry as a means of combating wear and corrosion. Its success in a particular application depends on the correct choice of process, itself dependent on component design, manufacturing route, plant layout and economics. Maximum performance for the chosen coating system can best result from a ll understanding of its structure and properties. Here the authors review the applications of electroless nickel coatings in light manufacturing industry, highlighting recent experience in adopting such a coating process, including plant layout and production problems.
