Abstract

Rassoul is clay extracted from Atlas Mountains in North Africa, characterized by its high capacity of adsorption and ionic exchange. The high stability of the rassoul particles suspension is closely linked to their capacity to interact by electrostatic and thermodynamic interactions within the aqueous medium. A fundamental contribution to the energy of interaction between colloidal particles in suspension is electrostatic. The aim of this work is to estimate the variation of the potential ζ of the aqueous suspension of Rassoul particles as well as the potential zeta of edges and faces. We measured the electrophoretic mobility of the suspension as a function of pH at constant ionic straight of the solution. The zeta potential were estimated by the means of the sample Helmotz Smoluchowski equation [1].
