Abstract

The most recent literature on the treatment of nickel-cadmium spent batteries often describes mixed pyro- and hydrometallurgical processes with different options (precipitation, electrolysis, solvent extraction) for the recovery of metals. The present paper updates the literature and describes the separation and recovery of nickel and cadmium from spent batteries by an electrohydrometallurgical method, using fluidized-bed electrolysis.
