Abstract
The electrohydrodynamic Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two dielectric fluids confined in an infinite rigid cylinder and having a circular horizontal interface is investigated. It is found that the vertical electric field has a destabilizing effect for a set of restricted wave numbers satisfying an eigenvalue equation. The special case when one of the two fluids is a perfect conductor is discussed in some detail. A feed-back mechanism has been introduced to control such instabilities.
