Abstract

The electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of Ru(dp-bpy) 2+ 3 (dp-bpy = 4,4'-diphenyl-2,2'-bipyridine) and RuCdp-phen) 2+ 3 (dp-phen = 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) in acetonitrile and aqueous solutions was studied. The diphenyl-substituted compounds produced a more intense emission than the nonsubstituted Ru(bpy) 2+ 3in acetonitrile. The ECL efficiencies, ø ECL, of Ru(dp-bpy) 2+ 3 and Rutdp-phen) 2+ 3 were estimated as 14% and 24% respectively. Similar results were obtained in aqueous solutions.
