Abstract

An electron energy-loss spectrum and five differential excitation functions of bound states of Xe I have been measured in the autoionization region, 18 to 24 eV. An attempt is made to interpret the numerous peaks of the spectrum and the perturbations present in the excitation functions. Singly and doubly excited neutral states and temporary negative-ion states are involved. The results obtained by electron spectrometry are compared with those obtained by photoabsorption and transmission spectroscopies.
