Abstract

The electroexcitation of high lying M1 (T = 1) resonances in /sup 12/C has been investigated in a 1p1h- and 2p2h-configuration space. A concentration of this new kind of collective magnetic dipole states is found around 40 MeV, although the 2p2h admixtures lead effectively to a splitting of the excitation spectrum. From an inspection of the corresponding form factors it should be possible to study these collective states by inelastic electron scattering at high q values (0.6 fm/sup -1/ < q < 2 fm/sup -1/).
