Abstract

SUMMARYTin-cobalt alloy deposits are considered as an eco-friendly substitute to replace conventional chromium plating. A new gluconate bath has been used to produce this alloy and evaluate its properties. Alloys containing 30–40 per cent cobalt exhibit desirable properties, such as a pleasing appearance, pore-free nature, solderability and corrosion resistance which have been attributed to the alloy being in the CoSn phase.
