Abstract

Tetragonal and monoclinic Fe-doped solid solutions are prepared by annealing FexZr1-xO2 gels at different temperatures. Also tetragonal Fe-doped solid solution@SiO2 core-shell composites and Fe-zircon solid solutions are obtained after annealing FexZrSiO4 gels. The electrochemical response of iron-doped zirconias (FexZr1-xO2) and zircons (FexZrSiO4) attached to graphite electrodes in contact with aqueous electrolytes, is described using the voltammetry of microparticles methodology complemented by atomic force microscopy (AFM). These techniques are applied to characterize the electrocatalytic effect exerted by such materials on the reduction and oxidation of nitrite ion in aqueous media.
