Abstract

Summary Basic parameters (peak and half-peak potentials, the number of exchanged electrons and the degree of reversibility) of the electrode reaction characterizing the oxidation of Mn(CN)5NO3- and the reduction of Mn(CN)5NO2- at a stationary carbon electrode have been determined in different media. The maximum current has been found to be linearly dependent on the concentration of the electroactive substance in all cases studied. Based on voltammetric and potentiometric measurements the value of the standard redox potential for the system Mn(CN)5NO2-/Mn(CN)5NO3- has been calculated. The electrochemical properties interpreted in terms of energy levels of molecular orbitals have been correlated with the bond situation in the complex.
