Abstract

In the present work, the complex oxidation mechanism of glucose at the surface of carbon paste electrode was utilized for the electro deposition of glucose. As compared to the bare electrode there was increase in the peak current, which would enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of the electrode. The electro-catalytic activity of the novel electrode was investigated for the oxidation of anticancer drug 5 - fluorouracil. The observed results indicated the applicability of electrode for electrochemical investigation of 5 - fluorouracil with limit of detection and limit of quantification 5.17 nm and 17.2 nM. Investigation for influence of scan rate was used to underatand the electrode process of 5 - fluorouracil. It was observed that it undegoes diffusion controlled process with transfer of two protons and two electrons respectively. In addition, a differential pulse voltammetric technique was developed for the determination of 5 - fluorouracil. The developed method was used for determination of 5 - fluorouracil in pharmaceutical dosage and urine samples. Good recovery from biological sample such as urine indicates the applicability of the proposed method for clinical trials.
