Abstract

An electrochemical membrane concentration cell was demonstrated as an effective means of removing and concentrating from a hot gas stream. The device consists of a high temperature molten sulfide electrolyte with porous carbon electrodes. The process‐gas is passed through the cathode chamber, where is selectively removed. With passage of current, the anion migrates to the anode, where elemental sulfur is evolved. Removal rates and cell overpotentials are reported as functions of current densities, gas flow rates and composition, and temperature.
