Abstract

The electrochemical reduction, in an all solid state cell, of NO 2 and O 2 on LSF (strontium substituted lanthanum ferrite) based electrodes has been studied using the cone-shaped electrode technique. It was shown that the reduction of NO 2 occurs much faster on LSF based electrodes than the reduction of O 2. The electrochemical reduction of NO 2 on LSF compounds is probably catalyzed by Fe(III) and oxide ion vacancies. The same seems to be true for the electrochemical reduction of O 2. The largest difference in current densities for the electrochemical reduction of NO 2 and O 2 was found for the compound LSF70 (La 0.3Sr 0.7FeO 3− δ ).
