Abstract

This review deals with the description of heterogeneous electrochemical reactions (reduction or oxidation processes) in the presence of cyclodextrin molecules with particular focus on the changes of the reaction mechanisms. Homogeneous processes, i.e. electron transfer between two reactants in solution are omitted. Generally, cyclodextrins (CDs) can serve as a source of protons or can effectively stabilize the reaction intermediates. Such stabilization alters the reaction pathways. This review separately treats the oxidation and reduction processes and each section also includes the effect of CDs on the electrocatalytic processes. Keywords: Heterogeneous electron transfer, cyclodextrins, inclusion complexes, oxidation, reduction, electrocatalysis, B - cyclodextrin (CD), γ -cyclodextrin (CD), Cyclodextrin, Electrocatalytic Reduction, Adsorbed Cyclodextrin Films, Electrocatalytic Oxidation, tetrathiafulvalene (TTF), pyrene chromophore, Benzoylformic acid
