Abstract

An electropolymerization of aromatic compounds with amino groups and their derivatives (aniline, N-methyl (or ethyl) aniline, o-phenylenediamine, N,N-dimethylaniline, l-pyrenamine, etc.) led to electroactive or electroinactive polymer films on electrode surfaces. For the electroactive films (i.e., PA, PMA, PEA, PPD and PPA) +, the kinetic parameters (standard rate constant, k°, and anodic transfer coefficient, α a) characterizing the heterogeneous electron-transfer process at the electrode/film interfaces as well as the apparent diffusion coefficient, D app, for the diffusion-like homogeneous charge-transport process within the films were estimated by normal pulse voltammetry; typically k°: 1 × 10 −5 −6 × 10 −4 cm s −1, α a: 0.67 - 0.86, D app: 1 × 10 −10 −4 × 10 −8 cm 2 s −1.
