Abstract

Abstract The crystal structure and electrochemical properties of the cast LaNi 4.6+ x Sn 0.2 (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.6) intermetallic system have been investigated. With nickel content increasing, the lattice parameter a decreases and c increases owing to the substitution of La atoms by Ni/Sn atom pairs. The influence of nickel content on the electrochemical properties indicates that non-stoichiometric LaNi 4.6+ x Sn 0.2 anode materials have lower discharge capacity than stoichiometric LaNi 4.8 Sn 0.2 , but the discharge steady potential (the mid-point potential value in the plateau of a discharge process curve) increases with increasing nickel content.
