Abstract

A novel nickel/nanoporous carbon (Ni-NC) composite has been synthesized by incorporating NiO in a pyrogallol–formaldehyde matrix and successive pyrolysis at 675°C. The electrochemical behavior of a 5wt% Ni-NC nanocomposite has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) performed under different experimental conditions (potential, scan rate and analyte concentration), with aim to develop a modified screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) for glucose determination. With the modified Ni-NC/SPCE electrode, a sensitivity of 146.4µAmM−1cm−2 and a lower detection limit of 10µM have been obtained.
