Abstract
When an alternating current passes through an ore furnace, the surface where electrochemical reactions occur moves through the electrically conducting layer. These reactions occur over the whole conducting volume. In this period, the voltage drop at the furnace bath remains constant. This behavior may be employed to assess the parameters of the process: the quantity of conducting material in the furnace bath; and the melt composition.
