Abstract

Polycarbazole was electrochemically synthesized in liquid crystal electrolyte solution on ITO glass. The liquid crystal electrolyte solution contains monomer, supporting salt, and matrix liquid crystal. Polarizing optical microscopy observation revealed that the polymer film thus obtained showed fingerprint optical texture derived from the morphology of the liquid crystal electrolyte solution. This result indicates that molecular transcription occurred from molecular level to macroscopic levels. UV-vis optical absorption measurement confirmed that polycarbazole film was successfully obtained by the electrochemical polymerization. Color of the polymer film can be changed from green (as-prepared) to yellow (reduced state) via reduction. Circular dichroism measurement revealed that this polymer film shows optical activity.
