Abstract

Various aspects of electrochemical phenomena involved during MnO 2–FeS 2 dissolution in dilute HCl have been examined through concurrent polarization studies of the individual half-cell reactions. Mixed potential ( E m), and mixed current, ( i m), obtained from intersection of such curves have been analysed to understand the process. An attempt has been made to examine the kinetic expressions derived earlier with the present experimental data. The balancing mechanism for operation of both the couples MnO 2⧹Fe 2 and FeS 2⧹Fe 3 at equal rate is also discussed.Résumé-On a examiné divers aspects des phénomènes électrochimiques impliqués de la dissolution du MnO 2-FeS 2 dans du HCl dilué. On a utilisé des études de polarisation concurrente des réactions des demi-cellules individuelles. On a analysé le potentiel de mélange, ( E m), et le courant de mélange, ( i m), obtenus à lintersection de telles courbes, afin de comprendre le procédé. On a essayé dexaminer les expressions cinétiquies dérivées plus tôt en comparaison avec les données expérimentales présentes.
