Abstract

"Crossed" Kolbe reactions are generally not very appropriate for the synthesis of short-chain hydrocarbons. However, trifluoroethane-d3 and pentafluoropropane-d3 were prepared in high yields by electrolysis of mixtures of the corresponding perfluoro-acids and acetic-d3 acid under specific conditions.
