Abstract

Methyl orange dye was successfully removed from simulated waste water in a batch mode electrochemical reactor with a stainless steel rotating cylinder anode. Effects of MO concentration, supporting electrolyte concentration, applied current, pH, and anode rotation rate were studied in terms of MO removal percentage and COD removal percentage. The study showed that both the removal efficiency of methyl orange and COD removal percentage decrease with the increase in MO initial concentration, and increase with increase in supporting electrolyte concentration, applied current, anode rotation rate, and pH value up to 7. Degradation reaction was found to be a first order reaction and the reaction rate constant was determined at different values of initial MO concentrations.
