Abstract

Some problems of continuous electrochemical monitoring of surface and waste water quality are discussed. The basic problem is the passivation of the indicating electrode that occurs during prolonged contact with contaminated water. Methods for reactivating the electrode surface are reviewed and two novel methods are described. An efficient method is also the determination of the species after its transfer from the water phase into a gas stream. Chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand methods on this principle are reviewed.
