Abstract

In reacting sulfides, the local chemical potential of sulfur is determined by relaxation processes of extrinsic point defects. During solid state reactions between Ag 2 S/Cu 2 S and Sb 2 S 3 /Ag 2 S local chemical potentials of sulfur were monitored by miniaturized solid state galvanic cells of the type Ag/AgI/Ag 2 S, [a s ]/Pt. Time- and space-dependent chemical potentials of sulfur were observed. The observed local chemical potentials of sulfur are discussed with the help of thermodynamic and transport data of the reacting systems.
