Abstract

Quartz is a common gangue mineral in the gold ore. The electrochemical behavior of gold electrodes was investigated in a quartz system with different particle sizes using cyanide leaching. Electrochemical experiment results show that the peak current density varied with the quartz particle size, the dissolution speed of gold increased and the adsorption rate of gold on quartz increased with quartz particle size decreased. It was suggested that the quartz could improve the dissolution speed of gold in cyanide leaching, while the leaching rate of gold reduced, due to the decreasing of the passivation film formation on its surface.
