Abstract

An interleaved vanadium oxide nanosheets coated on nickel foam (V/NF) is proposed as an excellent 3D electrode for oxygen evolution, which exhibits high activities with overpotential of 232 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and the Tafel slope is 50.1 mV dec−1, showing catalytic activity comparable to that of noble metals. The V/NF material are designed by a one-step facile electrodeposition method at low temperature in ethaline deep eutectic solvent and XRD analysis indicates that these nanosheets are mainly made up of VO(OH)2, V2O5 and NiVO3. The formation of these V-containing compounds on the surface of NF is regarded to be responsible for the electrocatalytic activity.
