Abstract

Electrochemical extraction of samarium from hydrochloric acid solutions of a mixture of semi-heavy rare earth metals has been developed. The kinetics of the process have been studied to control the electroreduction process of samarium on a solid inert (graphite) cathode. It has been established that the process proceeds in the diffusion kinetics zone. Optimum parameters for carrying out the electro-extraction of samarium from process solutions providing 80–85% samarium removal have been determined.
