Abstract

Abstract As electrochemical method was developed for converting 2,3-butanediol in dilute aqueous solutions to acetaldehyde by “in-cell” indirect anodic oxidation using a periodate/iodate redox mediatory system. Under optimum conditions, current efficiency for the desired acetaldehyde was close to 80% and the formation of by-products such as acetic acid, acetoin, and biacetyl was minimized or suppressed.
